Keep these 3 factors in mind as you search for a surrogate mother:
Appropriate legal fit: We ensure potential gestational carriers meet both general and state-specific legal criteria before presenting surrogate profiles to intended parents.
Personality fit and surrogacy expectations: We want both surrogates and intended parents to have a comfortable relationship throughout the journey, so your Matching team reviews the list of safe matches provided by the legal team to ensure a good personality fit.
Expectations surrounding termination and selective reduction: Sharing similar views about the termination of a pregnancy (in situations in which a reduction or termination is considered) is essential for surrogates and intended parents. In our experience, intended parents often prefer to make the choice regarding termination.
Many intended parents use eggs donated by a fertile woman who wants to help another individual or couple conceive a child (with or without the help of a surrogate). An egg donor may be the intended parent herself or a surrogate for heterosexual or homosexual couples or individuals. Intended parents who have concerns about infertility can opt to build their families through egg donation. If you choose to use an altruistic (uncompensated) surrogate mother in Louisiana, the state’s surrogacy law requires that the couple donate their own eggs and semen to create an embryo.
Intended parents using a gestation carrier in another state can find an egg donor with Circle Surrogacy’s help. We guide you through the entire egg donation process and help you coordinate with an IVF clinic of your choice. The first place most intended parents start their egg donor search is in an egg donor database. Most egg donor databases are set up so you can search for an egg donor by certain criteria. Circle's egg donor database is easy to use and easy to navigate.
The Louisiana Gestational Carrier Act was signed into law in 2016, specifically forbidding intended parents from compensating a surrogate mother who lives in Louisiana other than reimbursing the surrogate for actual expenses. Contracts between intended parents and Louisiana surrogates that include compensation beyond expenses are considered void and can’t be enforced. Surrogacy is legal in Louisiana only in limited circumstances, and the process can be challenging. Louisiana’s surrogacy law upholds gestational carrier agreements only when signed by intended parents who are a married, heterosexual couple who have both contributed their own gametes to create their embryo. Traditional surrogacy arrangements are also unenforceable and void.
Due to this law, intended parents cannot match with a woman acting as a surrogate if she lives in Louisiana. Instead, intended parents who live in Louisiana would simply match with a surrogate who lives in a surrogacy-friendly state, thus making surrogacy a safe and secure process.
At this time, due to the gestational surrogacy laws in the state, Circle Surrogacy is unable to work with women from the state of Louisiana who wish to become surrogate mothers.
