Living on the west coast has its advantages! California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Colorado are all great states to live if you're considering parenthood through surrogacy and/or egg donation.

If you're looking for a surrogacy agency on the west coast, here are a few guidelines to use to help you compare their surrogacy services:

• Relationships with top-rated IVF clinics. Reputable agencies have strong relationships with the best fertility clinics. There are many top fertility clinics throughout California, Nevada, Washington and the west coast, which helps to reduce travel costs associated with your journey. If you’re already established with an IVF clinic, some agencies will be happy to work with your clinic of choice.

• Available local surrogates. California and surrounding states are home to many surrogate mothers. Working with a local surrogate can sometimes cut down on travel costs during your journey.

• Working with intended parents of all backgrounds. Look for an agency who helps straight and LGBTQ+ couples and singles fulfill their dreams of parenthood.

Choosing a surrogacy and egg donation agency is a big decision! It's important to do your research and understand what surrogacy is, the surrogacy process, and what to look for in a surrogacy agency.

How much does surrogacy cost?

Surrogacy costs can vary for each individual journey, and depend on a few factors: whether or not you require an egg donor, your location to your clinic and surrogate (and/or egg donor), and the type of program you choose.

Surrogacy agencies may offer multiple surrogacy programs from which intended parents can choose. Not every surrogacy program is a "one size fits all". Look for an agency who works with all intended parents separately to understand their needs and help them find the program best suited for their needs.

Part of the overall surrogacy costs are surrogate mother payments. The amount your surrogate mother gets paid depends on a few factors: where she lives, if she has insurance and whether or not she's a first time carrier. On average, surrogate mothers are paid a base fee of $30k-$40k, plus additional compensation and benefits.

At Circle Surrogacy, we offer two exclusive fixed price program options: our Fixed Cost program and our Journey Protection Guarantee program. Both options have fixed costs that do not change during your journey, so you can plan for costs with no surprises.

What are the legal requirements with surrogacy?

Surrogacy requires legal matters and the need to work with a surrogacy lawyer.

If you work with a full-service agency that employs lawyers on staff, such as Circle Surrogacy, all of you legal needs will be covered. Agencies that do not employ lawyers, will either use third party lawyers, or have intended parents find their own legal counsel.

A surrogacy legal team coordinates with local attorneys to ensure you are properly matched with a surrogate in a state where you can accomplish the necessary legal work to finalize your parental rights. Once you are matched, your lawyer will negotiate contracts on your behalf. Your surrogate and your egg donor (if needed) will have independent counsel. Depending on a variety of factors, your surrogacy legal work may include a pre-birth order, a voluntary acknowledgement of paternity, a judgment of paternity, a custody orders, or an adoption.

Surrogacy is a complicated emotional, financial and legal process. Intended parents should research agencies, and meet with them, to find the right fit.

One consideration should be a surrogacy agency's success rates. Do intended parents who work with them bring home a baby? How many embryo transfers does it take to get pregnant and have a baby?

A surrogacy agency should be able to share these success rates with intended parents.

Circle is proud to have the highest surrogacy success rates in the industry, with a take-home baby success rate of 99.3% for intended parents who do at least three embryo transfers. And a success rate of 95.4% for intended parents who do at least one embryo transfer.

These success rates are based on the last 500+ completed surrogacy and surrogacy/egg donation journeys at Circle. They have been audited by a reputable tax & audit firm, and the report is available upon request.

FAQ's

As you consider parenthood through surrogacy, you may have questions. We’ve been helping parents navigate their journeys for over two decades and have answered almost every question out there! Below is a small sample of questions we have been asked.

What is the matching process like?

Intended parents may feel anxiety about matching with a gestational surrogate. However, at Circle, we work closely with each and every intended parents to ensure we find the best possible match.

First, intended parents will work with the Program Coordination Team to complete an IP profile. This profile contains information about the intended parents: who they are, how they met, where they work, what their hobbies are, and what their dreams for parenthood look like. The Program Coordination Team will then work closely with the legal teams to determine possible matching options based on a variety of factors, including: the state a surrogate lives in, whether the surrogate has insurance, and the matching preferences and personality fit.

We will send the redacted profile of the intended parents (with no identifying information) to the surrogate. If she expresses interest, we will send her profile to the intended parents, similarly leaving out all identifying information. Once the surrogate and the prospective parents express a mutual interest, we will put them in touch by telephone, video call or email so they can begin to get to know each other.

After communicating with each other, the surrogate and the prospective parents meet in person at their mutual convenience: at the surrogate’s home, the intended parents’ home, or some place in between. If the surrogate has children and/or a partner or spouse, the intended parents meet them as well.

An IVF physician medically screens the surrogates after a match is made. If for any reason the surrogate doesn’t pass the medical screening (which is rare), Circle Surrogacy presents a new match free of charge.
