French daily newspaper 20 Minutes turned to Circle President John Weltman for a recent article on surrogacy in the United States. Gestational surrogacy is becoming a hot topic in France as the country debates a marriage equality bill and related assisted reproductive technology provisions. While surrogacy is illegal in France, a recent directive from the Minister of Justice recognizes French citizenship for children born through surrogacy abroad.
Weltman explained how surrogacy is growing and is a popular option for gay and single parents, as well as those from outside the United States. Circle Parent Jen Rachman shared her experience pursuing surrogacy after her battle with cancer left her unable to carry a child.
