New UK Law Allows Single Parenthood through Surrogacy

Surrogacy in the UK

Circle is excited to share the news that under a new UK law, single intended parents living in the United Kingdom can now become parents through surrogacy. This new law gives single parents and parents-to-be in the UK the same rights as couples to become legal parents to their children born through surrogacy.

This law, formally changed as of January 4, 2019, allows single parents who have had – or are expecting – children through surrogacy to apply for a parental order to full secure their status (provided the children are biologically connected).

If you are a single parent through surrogacy in the UK and you wish to take advantage of the law change, you have until July 2, 2019 to submit your parental order petitions to the courts.

Parents-to-be should work with their surrogacy agency and UK-based counsel to secure their parentage rights.
