At Circle, we’ve worked with surrogates for over 20 years. We’ve seen just about everything. Every surrogacy journey is unique and every surrogate’s experience is completely her own. We’re fortunate to have many surrogates and parents through surrogacy that work here on our team to help our intended parents and surrogates through the process. Kristi Johnson, Circle’s Surrogate Prescreening Manager, has an incredible story about her surrogacy journey and what it’s like to now be on the other side. She shares her story on an episode of the podcast Infertile AF!
What is Infertile AF?
Infertile AF is an unfiltered podcast about infertility. Brooklyn-based journalist and mom-of-two Ali Prato, who went through IVF herself, talks to women—and some men—about the messy, frustrating, painful, heartbreaking, absurd and sometimes hilarious journey to have a baby. Or in some cases, to not have a baby. Each episode tells a different story, getting real about miscarriages, egg freezing, sperm donors, adoption, infertility depression, secondary infertility, surrogacy, endometriosis, IUIs, acupuncture, nutrition, relationship drama, embryonic genetic testing, money issues, that crazy jealousy you feel when you see someone else with a baby bump, and so much more. She covers the happy endings, the soul-crushingly sad ones, and the ones still in limbo.
To close out Pride Month, Ali chatted with Kristi to learn more about her experience as a surrogate for a same sex couple living in Israel.
Who is Kristi?
A little bit about Kristi: she is an experienced surrogate with Circle Surrogacy and delivered twins in 2014. She began working for Circle as an outreach coordinator and thoroughly enjoyed her time working closely with women starting their journeys as surrogates. She now works as the Surrogate Prescreening Manager and loves leading a passionate team while still being connected to the Circle surrogates. Kristi is an avid dog rescuer and is married with two children of her own.
In this episode of Infertile AF, Kristi shares the intimate details of her surrogacy experience before revealing that now, years later—and after undergoing a hysterectomy—she and her husband are using a surrogate of their own to try and have a third baby.
