Jen: The life-transforming experience of being an egg donor

Jen with the baby girl she helped create

We received this poem from Jen, who donated eggs last year to an international gay couple. She subsequently met the newborn baby girl and part of her extended family.
Jen, like many of Circle's donors, chose to be part of the known-donations program. In this program donors agree to meet the intended parents, to potentially stay in touch so one day the child / children can meet them, and to provide updated medical history if needed. Some also forge very meaningful relationships with the parents, while others maintain more limited ones. Most, however, would surely join Jen in attesting how profound and rewarding the experience was for them...

July 1, 2008

For the way my heart skipped a beat when her Dad brought me to his tiny sleeping beauty,

For the way her proud grandparents cried, smiling down at their beautiful granddaughter as she slept in my arms,

For the way I listened to the most loving and accepting family remark on the physical similarities between me, and their precious new baby,

For the way her grandmother thought her calm and sweet temperament came from me, as I sat peacefully in Central Park feeding her,

For the way she opened her eyes and looked up at me and I wished her all the love in the world,

For the wonderfully deserving and giving family who I never would have known existed, and I have grown to love,

For the way I will never be the same and the joy that being her egg donor will bring to me,

I thank you.

Jen
