A poem from a surrogate to the intended parents

In the news:

Israel's Maariv newspaper reports on the new wave of Israeli gay couples who turn to Circle to fulfil their dream of parenthood

Tel Aviv, June 8, 2007

Maariv-john.jpgOne of Israel's two main national newspapers describes in a five page story how "an American surrogacy agency presents the new family model" to the country's gay community. The article appeared on the day Tel Aviv was celebrating Gay Pride, and a few days ahead of a June 14th seminar co-sponsored by Circle Surrogacy in the city about "Surrogacy in the USA for Israeli Gay Men".

The article interviewed John Weltman, Circle's president, and Minette Trent, a former Circle surrogate who will speak alongside John at the upcoming seminar. Also interviewed were several Israeli clients, including Gil & Dror, a local gay couple that are expecting this summer. The article states as one of the reasons for the growing interest in USA surrogacy that fact that while surrogacy is legal in Israel, it is closely regulated and currently only available to straight married couple. Also interviewed was attorney Ira Hadar, a legal expert in Israeli gay rights and family law, who will also speak at the upcoming seminar. Through a successful petition to the country's Supreme Court, attorney Hadar recently helped pave the way for Israeli gay couple to attain second parent adoption for children that are initially recognized as only the child of one of the parents.  Nevertheless she is hopeful that another case pending at the court will eventually allow couples returning from the States as legal parents to also be recognized as such upon arrival in Israel, avoiding the need for the adopting process.
