Third annual "Men Having Babies" seminar in New York, co-sponsored by Circle Surrogacy, attracts high attendance and media interest

men having babies panel On September 2007, Circle Surrogacy co-sponsored for the third year a special program for New York area gay men who want to have babies. By all accounts the Men Having Babies 2007 seminar was a great success, with about 100 people in attendance and much media attention. Particularly informative was the nice article about "Helping Men Have Babies" at the New York Blade. The program was hosted by Center Kids, the family program of the NY LGBT Community Center. The panel included John Weltman, Circle's president, one of our parents, Pierre and his surrogate Minette, among others.

John, Pierre and Minette joined other panelists to provide information about the medical, legal and psychological issues that gay parents must address to have a baby through surrogacy. After the event, the participants were able to get more information at an exhibition space with representatives from Circle Surrogacy, Connecticut Fertility Associates, RMA of NJ and other agencies and organizations who provide services and support for gay men who want to have babies.

Below are some video segments from the seminar:

The Role of Surrogacy Agencies

In his presentation John Weltman described the role of surrogacy agencies: finding and screening carriers and egg donors, arranging for insurance, handling the legal contracts, arranging for an IVF clinic if needed, directing and coordinating the surrogacy process, providing psychological support and financial transactions. John also discusses the average costs and time line of a typical process. You can watch another clip with more detailed remarks about the screening process.

Benefit of known egg donations

Most of Circle clients prefer known egg donors, an option that is not available in many other agencies and clinic. In his remarks at the Men Having Babies seminar, John explains the advantages in terms of medical history updates, and the option to allow your child to meet the donor, a meeting that often dispels the mystery and avoids the development of an obsession about the child's biological origin.

The Surrogate Mother perspective

Minette Trents, who carried twins for Pierre, a gay man also on the panel, is describing her experience.

The Parent Perspective

Pierre, a single gay man who had twins with the help of Circle Surrogacy speaks about his experience
