Please join us for this unique informational seminar about parenting options through surrogacy in the USA for Italian and Swiss Residents. The seminar is presented as a response to growing interest in surrogacy among Italian and Swiss gay and heterosexual couples and singles, and given the special legal and logistical circumstances of pursuing such an option in the USA. The program will include presentations by a surrogate mother from the USA and an Italian lawyer specializing in surrogacy outside the US, along with additional legal and practical advice from John Weltman, the president and founder of Circle Surrogacy. |

Why should you consider surrogacy in the USA? Surrogacy is prohibited in Italy, but it is legal for Italian citizens to have children through surrogacy abroad and bring them back after the birth. The United States is widely considered to be the preferable country for surrogacy among Europeans and other international parents due to legal, societal and medical conditions. In the USA almost every state permits compensated surrogacy and no appeals court in any state has ever given custody to a gestational carrier. The US also offers a supportive environment for surrogates and couples. Recent stories in American and European media including CNN, the New York Times, Tribune de Genève, The Sunday Times, Newsweek, Wall Street Journal, and Svenska Dagbladt demonstrate a growing acceptance of surrogacy. John Weltman was quoted in Newsweek as saying that parents who work with a reputable agency like Circle have a "99 percent chance of getting a baby and a 100 percent chance of keeping it." Having children in the States can be relatively easy for international couples. It is only necessary to come to the United States three to four times, including the 20-week ultrasound and birth. Departures from the United States are easy as well - most international couples return to their countries within 2 weeks of the birth of their children, with their names on the birth certificate and US Passports, if they choose to apply for them. Successful handling of surrogacy for with international parents requires special attention to addressing every country's needs and legal circumstances and partnering with local organizations and lawyers to provide a complete solution for prospective parents before and after the birth. International parents should make sure to find an agency with such understanding of the laws to help determine which legal strategy would work best to ensure they can return and gain full legal rights for both parents and newborns back home (this strategy be different due to personal circumstances). A good agency will also lead parents through the logistical, legal and administrative processes involved from day one, and until they gain full custody of their newborns and bring them home.
