Estimated Program Expenses for Gestational Surrogacy with Egg Bank (2010 - USA)

In 2008 Circle Surrogacy started offering clients the first ever surrogacy plan with a frozen Egg Bank. The plan is offered in conjunction with Connecticut Fertility Associates (CFA), our premium fertility center. We are pleased to report that this program has been extremely successful so far, with pregnancy rates that match and exceed our success with fresh eggs. This plan allows clients to save as much as $15,000 - $27,000 over conventional egg donation surrogacy options. The Egg Bank option involves a new and safe rapid freeze (vitrification) process and the use of proven egg donors. The plan eliminates the wait and costs associated with the monitoring and synchronization of the donor and carrier, but offers a more limited egg donor selection and may leave fewer frozen embryos for future cycles.

See here for more information about the program, and see below for estimated costs.

Other Cost Considerations

[1] $500 is paid to the clinic for its monitoring. Another $500 is expected to be paid to a local clinic for monitoring if the carrier is not local to the clinic. However, on occasion a carrier will require more screening before coming to the clinic. This will increase this charge by approximately $500 per monitoring appointment. In addition, it is the intention of the IVF physician to send the carrier for her post transfer monitoring to her obstetrician. However, if the carrier does not have insurance, or even if she does, there is a chance that the intended parent(s) will be charged for these monitoring appointments.

[2] Insurance is one of the charges that is most variable. US domestic intended parents are required to purchase insurance for the surrogate. At this time, the company that we recommend offers 3 policies, all of which have an enrollment fee of $1,050. The policies' premiums vary with the lowest premium being $5,000, the mid-level policy having a $7,000 premium and the high-level policy having a $10,900 premium. All of the policies provide complications coverage for up to $500,000 and have deductibles ranging from $15,000 for the high-level policy to $45,000 for the low-level policy. Some of the deductible will need to be set aside during the pregnancy, the amount of which will be determined by the policy, but typically an amount between$15,000 to $18,000 for one child. Since the typical medical expense for a single child is $10,000, a large portion of the deductible should be returned in most cases.

[3] This is the total of all charges that are expected and the number that clients should consider as the likely minimum charges for your egg/embryo donation and/or surrogacy. The numbers set forth below detail the approximate financial impacts that certain circumstances of your carrier or donor, chance events and choices by you will have on your surrogacy costs.

Total payments to donors in excess of $5,000 require justification and sums above $10,000 are not appropriate; Circle Surrogacy complies with ASRM guidelines for egg donation compensation.
