Controlling Costs

John started his program with the intent of keeping costs down, in order to make surrogacy an afford-able alternative to private adoption.

  • Gestational Surrogacy Program Options:
The cost for gestational surrogacy, including all agency fees, attorneys' fees, screening and surrogate fees (but excluding medical and insurance costs) range from  around $50,000 to $75,000, depending the program chosen by our clients. These program vary in the source of the egg donation, IVF insurance coverage, legal needs and other circumstances. Total program costs including medical and insurance components range from around $65,000 to $108,000 for egg donor surrogacy. Optional components can add 5-10% to the costs, and we also suggest that clients allow for 10-15% possible variable and costs above their standard program estimates, to allow for unforeseen developments, as detailed in the " other costs for consideration" page.

Other Cost Considerations

[1] IVF charges vary enormously. We are aware of IVF charges for fresh cycles (inclusive of screenings for all parties, monitoring for donors and carriers and medications for donors and carriers as low as $18,000 (for the Egg Bank option) and as high as $45,000. Your costs will be actual. The figures above are estimates of our lesser expensive clinics. The total of all screening and IVF charges set forth above are $24,500 for IVF plus $3500 for screening the donor, $2,000 for screening the carrier, and $2,000 for screening one dad, for a total of $32,000. Charges at certain clinics can add $7,500 to $15,000 to that number. As an example, charges at CT Fertility, which is frequently chosen by many of our intended parents, adds approximately $9500 to that number.

[2] This is the total of all charges that are expected and the number that clients should consider as the likely minimum charges for your egg/embryo donation and/or surrogacy. The numbers set forth below detail the approximate financial impacts that certain circumstances of your carrier or donor, chance events and choices by you will have on your surrogacy costs.

[3] While the costs above are to be expected, the costs below are only possible contingent extras. No one in our program has ever had to pay all of the expenses listed here, and some get by without ever paying any of the expenses listed here. We do not collect any of the other sums dictated by chance as part of the trust fund, but will collect those that may be dictated by the circumstances of your donor and those that may be created by choices you have made.
