Courtney on her way to get eggs removed

Courtney: the remarkable experience of being an egg donor

We received this letter from Courtney, who donated eggs in 2009 to a gay couple in our program. In the letter Courtney describes the process and her feelings throughout.

Courtney, like many of Circle's donors, chose to be part of the known-donations program. In this program donors agree to meet the intended parents, to potentially stay in touch so one day the child / children can meet them, and to provide updated medical history if needed. Some also forge very meaningful relationships with the parents, while others maintain more limited ones. Most, however, would surely join Courtney in attesting how profound and rewarding the experience was for them...

December 27, 2009

I first became interested in egg donating when an acquaintance of mine could not become pregnant. I realized the best thing I could do for someone is help them have a child of their own. I researched different agencies and found Circle Surrogacy. I submitted my application and almost immediately got paired up with a gay couple. I was extremely excited and nervous at the same time since this was my first time ever egg donating.

The first phone call to the intended parents was probably the most nervous I have ever been!! Once we exchanged hellos, we hit it off from there. We had everything in common and spent an hour laughing and talking to each other. I felt honored to be donating my eggs to this couple!

The doctor's appointments and frequent trips to get blood work done was by far the most enjoyable experience. All of the nurses and my case manager Elinor was extremely easy to talk to and helped me along the way. When I started my injections it was extremely scary for me. After the first time I was a pro! It didn't hurt one bit which made the experience far more enjoyable.

As soon as my eggs were almost ready I took the trip with my close friend to the removal. What I remember the most was when the doctor was showing me the ultrasound of all the eggs in me. It was remarkable!! On the day of the surgery I wasn't nervous at all. I was laughing and smiling with the doctors as they were hooking an IV up to me and putting me asleep. I woke up sore and about 20 minutes later was allowed to go home.

I found out later on that they did remove eggs and that the surrogate became pregnant! I wish I could have given the couple a big hug and congratulated them. This experience felt amazing to me and I don't think there is any better feeling in the world than to give a couple this type of opportunity. I would without a doubt donate again, because it is a miracle to give a couple a child just by donating my eggs.
